Mother and child in Inuit carving
Sitting or standing up, the mother is mostly represented with her child in the hood of her amauti (inuk woman's coat): only the head of the baby is visible. In a society where maternity is very important, the amauti is a strong symbol. Altough the most common representation, we also see mothers carrying childrens in their arms or holding older kids by the hand.
